I find all the flack about the new law just signed into being in Arizona to be fascinating and scary all at the same time. Here we have a law that says the obvious! Is someone crosses the border without following the law of having a passport and visa they are breaking the law and can be held accountable for that. DUH! It does not matter their intentions or thoughts. If we Americans cross the border into other countries without proper documentation and are caught they will throw us in jail and throw away the key.
On the other hand I do think the USA needs to re-due its immigration laws so it is a bit easier for people to move here. I have neighbors who have taken over 11 years to come here. But they waited and went through all the hoops to do it. Now they are here and are making great progress. They are eager to learn and contribute to society. But it never should have taken that long for the immigration to have taken place.
But that does not give permission for everyone crossing of the borders just because one wishes to. I support Arizona in every way I can for have the guts to protect their state by providing tools for the police to use when needed.
It is also amazing to me how people are screaming from the roof top how this law will allow police a police state and hurt people. Yet the people against this law are the ones throwing bottles, destroying property and doing all the name calling. Is that the pot calling the kettle black??? Just a thought..

Caring for Elderly brings laughs
So I had another funny today with my mother in law. I was working on the computer and everyone else was gone. Iris started calling my name asking me in her usual excited tone to come help her. So I get to a stopping a point and go all the way across the house to her room and ask what she wants. She tells me she has dropped her glasses and just can not reach them or see them. I need to get under the bed and get them for her. So she gets up after rocking back and forth forever and getting her rhythm up to speed. She totters out of the way and I go under the bed and chair to see what there is to find. realize this is always a fishing trip because most everything lives under there. We are not just talking dust bunnies. There are run away pills that just hop out of her hands on to the floor trying to save themselves from certain death. There are all kinds of crumbs from all manner of items eaten in the chair and bed. Even though this is vacuumed at least once a week I swear these things start to grow and populate down there. Then there is always layers of fabric ranging from thread size to blankets. Most of this is from the stuff she cuts up for quilts.
So after searching for what seemed like forever, yet realizing it was only a minute or less I found nothing. Then the thought came to me, I wonder could they possibly be on top of her head??? So get up and look right at here which I try not to do that often and ask which glasses she is missing. She gives ma quisical look because she only has one pair. I stand up and tell her they are on her face!!!!! Yes, that is right they are not hiding on her head or the floor or anywhere else. They are on her nose and ears right where they are supposed to be!!! She laughs and I leave to go continue my other duties around the house.
Such is a day living with Iris. Such important things must be solved immediatly or life will end as we know it! So the next time you loose your glasses please make sure you are not using them to try and find them!!! hahahaha.

Wisdom of an old Lady
I promised you more Irisism's will here are some more gleaned from many years of experience and thought.
1. Used when someone does not agree with you. "I don't know why you are talking that way but You just have to get that out of your mind!"
2. To explain why you sleep all day every day and do nothing. "Sometimes I just have to take an entire day and sleep to catch up on my strength and not be tired."
3. How to pay off your house loan early. "Why don't you just go borrow some money and pay off the house early and then you won't have to worry about it any more?"
4. Friends come over to visit also causes the following. " What do I do? Do I stay in my bedroom, will that be okay? Or do I come out or do I eat in my bedroom or am I allowed at the table?"
5. From a person who takes many many medications for depression and is either majorly high or majorly low and yet is convinced nobody knows because she hides it so well. "How do Nathan and Gina know I have depression problems I didn't tell them!"
6.After having a wheel chair ramp installed. " Did you notice my freeway?"
7. As Carlene walks up to the van with library books in a bag for Iris to read. " oh those look like really good books! I am sure I am gonig to enjoy those. Thanks for picking really good ones!" Realize they are still in the bag and Carlene is still holding them and walking to the van!
8. Last one for today. Carlene asks, What do you want to eat for dinner for the next couple of weeks? Answer, " pudding, yogurt, cookies, candy, crackers, pop, popcorn, apples, melons and oranges. Oh and some coconut cream pie!" OH that we all could eat like that!!!

Iris VS Mischevious Cat
We have a couple of Siamese cats that live with us. Iris (my mother in law who lives with us) really likes them to come in and sleep on her lap. However, one of the cats has other ideas. The cats name is Abby.
Abby is quite an interesting cat. She likes high places. When ever she goes into an area she always looks for the highest place she can get to. She is very very curious. In fact she is the reason someone once said, "curiosity killed the cat". She also has a fetish for drinking straws.
Because of those two things we now have contention between Iris and cat. First Iris likes to work on quilts. She has many of them stacked all around her room. She has some shelves in a corner next to her bed with quilts stacked on the top shelf. They are so high there is like six inches between the quilt and the ceiling. Abby has found this spot. She has taken to sleeping up there much of the time when she is in the house. Iris sleeps a lot herself and so never sees her go up there. But there have been a number of times Abby has announced herself by launching herself from the ceiling high perch and landing either next to or on top of Iris. This sends Iris into a tizzy. Many a night we will her her door open and the cat thrown out and the door closed with mighty force.
But the real tussle comes with straws. Iris likes having straws in her water glasses that she insists must be next to her chair and bed at all times. After all if she gets thirsty or her mouth gets dry she must have the water there to take care of the problem. Taking two steps into the bathroom would be to much effort and therefore is not an option. But I stray from the tale.
So Iris has straws in the water and Abby loves straws. She will go and sit and stare at Iris and Iris will stare at her because she knows that Abby wants the straw. But Iris can not win a stare contest. She falls asleep far to easy and often. As soon as she does Abby jumps forward grabs the straw and runs off. She drags the straw around the house chewing on it. She will sometimes just chew on it while it is in the glass and then Iris will wake up and start yelling at her. She will continue to chew on it and play with it in spite of the yelling. It takes Iris a while to get up and or reach over to shew her away. Once she finally does Abby will run away but will be back within a few minutes to do it again.
So we kind of encourage Abby to go in the room as it keeps Iris "entertained" and busy thinking about something, rather than feeling sorry for herself or worrying about dead leaves not falling from the trees! We bad! or not?

Irisism of the unfallen leaf
So here is our first Irisism. Here is the story. Her room is in the front of the house and overlooks the driveway and front year. Our front yard has a very alrge walnut tree sitting in the middle of it. She never closes her curtains ever. She likes looking out and watching what is going on outside. She is convinced that no one can see in especially when it is dark outside. But they can especially since she always has a light on which we call the perpetual light because it never ever is turned off. She is like a fish in a fish bowl and backlit to boot.
Well, our walnut tree started dropping leaves as it does every year. She watched and I guess must have kept count or something. Anyway, in the end one little leaf had not fallen yet. It was just outside of her window and she watched it for quite some time. Finally, and here is the Irisism, she said, ' Go knock that leaf off. I have been watching the leaves fall and that is the only one that has not fallen. It should not be there. Go knock it down now. It is just not right to still be there.'
Of course who can resist the temptation to want to go glue more leaves on to make sure they don't fall off? In fact I think about it each year of just gluing one leaf on the tree so it never drops. So far I have have been a good boy and not done so. She kept telling us to get that leaf off as it bothered her and it was just not right that it should still be on the tree. This went on for a couple of days. Finally one day after being chewed out multiple times a day for not knocking it off we finally removed it for our sanity. I would say her sanity but that went away some time ago.
